The Magic of a Toy Catalog

My 10 and 7 year old are proving that today’s kids grow up too fast in that neither of them really care about toys any longer. The 10 year old asked for an edger (lawn maintenance tool) and a compound bow for his birthday. My 7 year old cares about fishing and baseball. But my 5 year old is still truly a kid and I can’t help but envy him when he looks through the toy catalogs we’ve received recently.

We’ve received a catalog from Amazon, Target, and Wal-mart. So far he loves the Target one the best (he’s just like his mommy in the preference of Target over Wal-mart). Watching him go over the pages again and again with such intent brings me back to the days of the giant wish books from Sears and JC Penney. I would look at the He-Man section the most intently, but they had all kinds of cool items from my favorite tv shows and cartoons.

I want to recreate that magic with a paper catalog. I don’t care how awesome a mobile or desktop web experience is, there is just no way to replicate the magic of a catalog. Look for us to release something magical in 2021.
