Does Uncertainty Stress You Out?

I’ve noticed that a lot of people who are feeling the most stressed by the Covid-19 pandemic citing the uncertainty of it all. No one knows what is going to happen, and that is hard to take.

I think there are 2 things you can do to chill a bit.

  1. Remember that we live in a fiction of our own creation.

If your kid is “behind” because they are not suited to home schooling what does that even mean? We’ve created a fiction that by age 5 kids should hit milestone A and by age 10 milestone Q, etc. The truth is we should be lifelong students.

It’s also a fiction that your plans are going to happen. For instance you may have a vacation scheduled and you are worried because you don’t know if you will be able to go. But if your child became sick or someone in your family died you wouldn’t have gone. Basically we’re all day to day, it just feels like the plans are real.

    2. Appreciate not having plans.

Maybe your sports are cancelled but that gives you the chance to appreciate the wonders of nature that are within a short drive of where you are right now. Enjoy having the time to hang with your family instead of the guys you play pick up hoops with (who I do miss but look on the bright side).
